Chambers meets DDC re parking issues

The Chamber met Dover District Council to discuss one of Deals big issues…parking prices and parking availability in town.

We have been discussing this over the past 2 years as revenues and fortunes for businesses in town are still being affected post Covid, the Chamber presented the new team in charge of this with previous surveys information we gathered from businesses and the public, we also presented our calculations of the cost for a scheme for free parking after 3pm from Tuesday to Thursday which would increase footfall in the town and relieve some of the overcrowded car parks at the weekend.

We have pointed out that parking solutions cannot be looked at on a  one size fits all approach for Dover, Sandwich and Deal as each area has it’s issues and times where it is busy with people, we have pointed out that Dover get free parking on Sundays and have asked the question, why not Deal and Walmer.

The Chamber will continue to lobby DDC on this matter and we are hopeful to make progress over the coming months, watch this space
